Fall Sports Update

With the beginning of fall comes the opening of many sports seasons here at Duxbury High School. Some of the most important matches and rivalries are approaching soon, some of which already happened. The captains of these varsity teams have shared their thoughts about their current season.
The varsity cheerleading squad is practicing for their first competition, to be held on October 26th. Senior captain Sarah H. said, “We have a really new team. We lost a lot of seniors last year so it’s a rebuilding year.” She added, “We are looking to move on after our leagues [competition] on November 10th to regionals.”
The boys crew team has raced in one race so far, placing fourth and sixth. Senior captain Peter C. said, “Our goal is to have two boats that are constantly pushing themselves to do their best.” He added, “We hope to be able to meet all our personal goals and row with unity among the team.”
The girls crew team is striving to do their very best this season. They had two boats medal in the Mystic Regatta, obtaining second and third place. Senior captain Sarah D. said, “crew is a sport that is both highly teamwork oriented and personally oriented,” she added, “My biggest goal for my team is for everyone to break their records and push themselves to be the best athletes they can be.”
With a record of 5-1 so far this season, things are looking pretty good for the boys cross country team. Junior captain Craig F. said, “This year we’ve had two goals in mind: to win the league championship and to make it to states as a team.” He added, “We can only continue to grow and take more strides into achieving our goals. I think we are more than capable of getting there.”
The girls cross country team is at a rebuilding stage. Their record so far this season is 2-5. Senior captain Jackie H. said, “By the time the league meet comes around we hope to do well and carry that into next season!”
Duxbury’s varsity field hockey team is undefeated,with a record of 8-0-1. They are working very hard this season to accomplish their main goal. Senior captain Zoe G. said, “Our goal is to win a state championship!”
Varsity football has had their ups and downs with a record of 2-1 thus far in the season. Senior captain Grant K. said, “Our current goal is to beat Silver Lake and continue to be successful.” The team did beat Silver Lake on Saturday, September 28th with a score of 29-0.
Boys varsity golf is doing very well in their season so far, winning 10 matches. Junior captain Jared S. said, “We have a lot of freshmen on the team who are starting to make contributions.” He added, “Our goal is to win the Patriot League and possibly win states at the end of the season.”
The boys varsity soccer team has been working hard this year. Senior captain Calder S. said “Our goal is 10.” He explained, “Duxbury boys soccer has won 9 state titles. Our goal is to win a state title and turn the 9 into a 10.” Calder says that his team can achieve anything if they continue to work together. The boys currently hold a record of 5-3.
As for the girls varsity team, they are 6-1-1 in their current season. Senior captain Gabriella D. said, “Our goal for this season is to focus on the league championship and to get as far as we can in the south sectional finals.” Senior Halle W., another captain, said, “We plan to take it game by game to get us there [south sectional finals].”
Duxbury’s varsity volleyball team has started their season with a smash. The girls are currently 9-0, dominating every team they have played so far. Junior captain Catherine H., stated “We are working hard to achieve many goals; our main priority is to qualify for playoffs.”
