Recently the new fad within teenage society has been binge watching Netflix Series. Students of Duxbury High School have been non stop watching seasons upon seasons of shows in extremely brief periods of time.

Senior Sam N. is a very dedicated fan of the show Grey’s Anatomy. She said, “I watch Grey’s almost everyday, for at least 2 hours, and I admit to getting very emotionally attached to the series, and characters.” Many people have devoted  days to watching their favorite shows.

According to a October 22nd CNN Money article, Netflix added nearly 1.3 million new American subscribers during the months of April, May, and June. Junior Katie W said “ A few years ago, Netflix was not nearly as popular as it is now. It is not only used for families to watch movies, but for teens to watch series.”

This new trend has started to become obsessive and addicting to most teens. Students of Duxbury High stated that they watch Netflix for hours on end, and feel as if they can not stop. Sophomore Lane K. watches American Horror Story, and Grey’s Anatomy and stated “There once was a time when I passed up going out to dinner in the city with friends, just to continue watching Grey’s Anatomy.”

Senior Deveyn C. said, “ I watch Gossip Girl and Vampire Diaries and I get very emotionally attached, like it’s happening to me and my best friends in real life.”

An episode on Netflix is 20 to 40 minutes long, and students at Duxbury High School are watching an average of 3 episodes per sitting. Despite sports and academics, students manage to find plenty of time to indulge in their favorite Television series. Senior Luke M. said, “Senior year can be quite stressful, but watching Breaking Bad and The Wire makes up for it all.”

Many students are continuing to watch Netflix, and once completely done with a series, they are very motivated to move onto a new one. Senior Jacqui N said “I finished Greys Anatomy, and Desperate Housewives on Netflix, and now I can’t wait to start new series.”
