Awards Show Season 2014
Every New Year signals the start of another award show season in America. Popular movie contenders this year include 12 Years a Slave, Gravity and American Hustle. The Golden Globes kicked off the award show season on Jan. 12th. According to CNN.com this year’s Golden Globe winners were:

Junior Matt L. did not tune in to the Golden Globes but said, “I was excited that Breaking Bad won so many awards.” Jennifer Lawrence stole all of the social media attention that night. Many thought that her Dior Haute Couture dress resembled Ariel’s, from the Little Mermaid, DIY dress made from a sail sheet and rope. Celebrities such as Colton Haynes dressed themselves up in duvets and black belts to poke fun at Lawrence’s dress.
The Screen Actors Guild Awards is scheduled to air on Jan. 18. Actors from movies such as Blue Jasmine, 12 Years a Slave, American Hustle, Dallas Buyers Club and Lee Daniels’ The Butler are nominated. Television series actors and actresses nominations are for: American Horror Story: Coven, Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, Homeland, 30 Rock and Modern Family.
This year the Academy Awards are the grand finale for award season. Airing on March 2 they are the last of the movie and television award shows. Sophomore Lilla A. said, “I am going to watch them [Oscars].” Being the most coveted award in all of Hollywood it is only fitting that they save the best for last. Junior Matt L. said, “I might watch a little of the Oscars just to see who wins best picture but I won’t go out of my way to watch it.”
Maybe Leonardo DiCaprio will finally win after four nominations. Junior Eliza H. said, “I will definitely watch the Oscars.” This years film that is predicted to do very well is 12 Years a Slave. Sophomore Jake R. said, “I really hope 12 Years a Slave wins a lot of awards, it was such a good movie.”
Also American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Dallas Buyers Club and Frozen are expected to win. Freshman Abby M. said, “I’m absolutely going to watch the Oscar’s. I think it would be really cool if Jennifer Lawrence won Best Supporting Actress for American Hustle because it would be her second year in a row winning an Oscar.”
