Students and Staff Look Ahead Toward Non-Snowy Days Away From School

By Tyler M.

After getting through a long winter, Duxbury High School prepares for the coming spring break.

For some DHS seniors, spring break offers them enough time to finalize their college decisions. Spring break occurs this year from Apr. 20-24, with final decisions due May 1. Senior David M. plans to see Fordham University, UMass Amherst, and possibly Loyola University Maryland. David said, “I think I’ll end up at Fordham, but I’m not positive yet. I want to go to [a school] with a good business program and a nice campus that’s not too big and not too small.”

Other DHS students like to travel during spring break. Sophomore Ben Q. thinks he might go down to Florida. Ben said, “I’ll probably go fishing, go to the beach, go swimming, and maybe play some golf.” Because his grandparents live down in Florida, Ben has gone down south a couple of times before.

Many spring student athletes such as seniors Pat C., Cam W., and Will H. will be unable to travel for very long, if at all, due to their team obligations. Pat and his boys lacrosse squad will be hosting the Xaverian Hawks on Tuesday, Apr. 21, at 2:00 pm. Cam, Will, and the rest of the baseball team play on Thursday, Apr. 23 at 1:00 pm at Brockton and then will host Barnstable on Friday, Apr. 24 at 4:00 pm.

Finally, many students plan to stay at home or are unsure of what they will do. Senior Connor A. said he will work on a project for school. Sophomore Jack C., junior Brian B., and many others still do not know what their plans are over break. However, they will have the time to figure the plans out that students in some other surrounding areas of Massachusetts will not due to vacation cancellations.
