Boughs of Holly Days

On November 29th, the town-wide festivity Holly Days returns. Now in its eleventh year, Holly Days is the annual event that links Duxbury residents with its businesses. Trolleys will connect the villages, stopping at Hall’s Corner, the Marketplace, the Student Union, Snug Harbor, and the Senior Center. At all of these locations and more, eventgoers will find numerous activities and performances to keep them busy.
Anticipating a good turnout, Anne Antonellis of the Duxbury Business Association said, “every year we get more people coming from town and out of town…it’s a great way to start off the holiday season.” This year, Duxbury can expect hay rides, craft fairs, productions, food, the lighting of the tree on the Town Green, and more, including Santa Claus. Junior Libby B., a dancer at Gotta Dance Studio, said, “This will be my 7th year participating in Holly Days…we will be performing our dances and holding games for kids to play.”
Like many food businesses in town, Sarah G. of Depot St. Market said, “We will be giving out free samples, especially appetizers to promote the food more. Usually we also raffle off stickers for gift cards.” The Duxbury Rural & Historical Society will be hosting ornament-making classes, treasure hunts, and goats for petting. “On our patio the Snug Harbor Chorus sings carols, and we cosponsor face painting with a local real estate company,” said Debbie Odier, owner of French Memories.
Although, Holly Days seems to attract mainly young children, it is fondly remembered by past attendees. Referring to the trolleys, junior Alden M. said, “It was fun to be able to have independence and explore Duxbury with my friends.” Senior Emily B. said, “My favorite part was all the little crafts available in stores. I loved them when I was little, and now I love seeing all the little kids having fun and getting excited for Christmas.”
Despite the expectations some might have, all are welcome to attend and everyone is encouraged to find something that interests them from the variety Holly Days offers.
