Opinion: What’s Your Favorite TV Show?
By Daniel F.
TV is very popular. Whether it be monsters, zombies, drug kingpins, ER doctors, cutthroat politicians, hackers, or knights. A recent poll sent out to DHS students said that many people watch Stranger Things, Grey’s Anatomy, The Office, The Walking Dead, Narcos, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, House of Cards, Supernatural, and Mr. Robot.
All of these shows except, for Stranger Things, The Office, House of Cards, and Game of Thrones, have started new seasons and Mr. Robot just ended a season.
American Horror Story is a horror anthology series. Each season starts a new story, with season six focusing on the lost colony of Roanoke. The sixth season premiered September 16th on FX.
Game of Thrones is still one of the most popular shows around. It follows the fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin and has won 38 Emmy awards. “I like how it’s realistic and you never know when your favorite character may die,” said sophomore Alex B. “Even though the show’s writing is degrading now, it’s still fun to watch.” A seventh season will premiere in mid-2017 on HBO.
Grey’s Anatomy follows the doctors and surgeons at Seattle Grace Hospital. It shows their lives in and out of the hospital. Freshman Olivia K. said, “I like the drama and every episode is different.” The thirteenth season premiered September 22nd on ABC.
House of Cards follows President Frank Underwood and how he came up with an elaborate plan to become the President. “I like how corrupt the President is. That’s an interesting part of it,” said sophomore Liam O. “It’s interesting to see that on film for once.” The fifth season will begin in 2017 on Netflix.
Mr. Robot focuses on Eliot Alderson, a programmer by day and part of a vigilante hacker group by night. The show is known for its modern approach about hacking. The second season ended September 22nd on USA.
Narcos follows the story of Pablo Escobar and his drug cartel. It also shows the DEA agent that is tasked with bringing Escobar down. The second season premiered on Netflix on September 2nd.
Although The Office ended in 2013, it still is a very popular sitcom. It is a mockumentary that follows office workers at Dunder Mifflin Paper Company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Sophomore Patrick F. said, “I like the diversity of the characters and the subtle comedy in it.” It ran for nine seasons on NBC.
Stranger Things is a show on Netflix that follows a missing boy’s family, friends, and a police chief’s search for him as they encounter supernatural forces and government conspiracies. “I like the suspense and there is a lot of plot twists and interesting things that happen,” said junior Billy S. “It keeps you thinking about it. You keep wanting to watch it to see what happens next.” The show premiered this year in July, and a second season is set to premiere in 2017.
Supernatural is a show about two brothers taking up the family business of hunting monsters. It is reminiscent of The X-Files. Sophomore Charlotte B. said, “I like how there is a lot of mystical creatures. That’s something that I’m interested in and I like learning more about all different types of cultures.” The twelfth season airs October 13th on The CW.
The Walking Dead is about survivors after the zombie apocalypse. It is based off the comic book series of the same name. The seventh season will premiere October 23rd on AMC.
