Do you like playing badminton?
The badminton club is one of many new clubs debuting at DHS this year. The club was started by juniors Julia M., Caroline V. and Zoe M. Julia, Caroline, and Zoe are now co-chairs for the club, and the Badminton club already has twenty-five members and counting. “We wanted to create a fun club that could meet every once in a while to have fun and could be a sport that wasn’t as demanding as other high school sports” said junior founder Julia M.
According Mrs. Wargo, a teacher representative for the club, “The students really want to compete in an annual tournament for High Schools run by MassBad [Massachusetts High School Badminton League]…”
Along with Mrs. Wargo, Mr. Tatarka is a teacher representative for the club. Both representatives with the students plan to have a “community-wide fundraising tournament to raise money for uniforms, fees, and equipment,” said Mrs. Wargo
Anyone can join the badminton club. “It is co-ed and we have full support from administration, so we anticipate it growing. Badminton is a sport that can be both competitive and social. Most importantly, it’s fun.” said Ms. Wargo. Similarly, junior Julia M. said “…we’re a stress free club that allows you play a sport with a group of friends…”
For anyone interested, the club’s next meeting will be on December 8th after school.
Update: Club founder Julia M. said, “Currently we only meet once every month on Thursday for an hour right after school. In a couple of months we will be trying to meet a little more frequently…”
