With the 2016-2017 Winter Sports seasons opening up, there has been a lot of buzz following the hockey team’s playoff bid last March.
Last season, the Boy’s Hockey team lost in the South Semifinals to Natick High in the fifth round of a shootout 1-0. The Dragons finished with a 14-6-2 record, winning their fifth consecutive Patriot League Title.
This season, the Dragons look to continue their momentum from last year. With nine returning seniors, the Dragons are poised for another successful season. Senior captain and defenseman Hunter S. said, “Yeah it’s going to be a fun year. We have a lot of experience on the roster which is a good formula for success. We are also going to need some younger guys to step into bigger roles this year.”
The Dragons take on Falmouth, their first scrimmage on December 2nd. This is an annual trip for the squad as they trek down to the Cape on the first Friday of every season for a hard-hitting tilt.
Speaking with another key cog on the roster, Sophomore Defenseman Teddy G, he gave some insight what the group’s main focus is on the ice and what they are looking to do to other teams. “Yeah well this is a real tight knit group, a core group of guys coming back from last years team, and I think our strengths are just guys buying into the system and blocking shots and making team-first plays, taking the body, and so on.”
All signs point to more success ahead for the Green Dragons, with their first regular season contest set for December 14th in Quincy, they will look to start off on a positive note.
