Remembering Bill Paxton

On February 26th, Actor Bill Paxton passed away at the age of 61 due to complications from surgery. Paxton had a large career as an actor, having roles in such films as The Terminator, Weird Science, Aliens, Apollo 13, Titanic, and many others. Paxton also had many roles on TV, in music videos, and even in Video Games, as the voice of Kahn in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

Paxton was born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1955. His father was also an actor sometimes, and his mother was a very religious woman who raised Bill in deep faith. Bill was also in Fort Worth, when former president, John F. Kennedy was assassinated on November 2nd, 1963. He can even be seen in this picture, being raised above the crowd, waiting for president Kennedy to emerge from his hotel:


Bill Paxton’s acting career got its real start in The Terminator. Though Paxton only had a minor role of a punk thug, this is the movie that would ultimately start his acting career. A year later, he scored a bigger role as Chet, in Weird Science, and eventually he would star a lead role as Bill Harding in Twister.

Sophomore, Chris V. said; “Weird Science, Twister, and Apollo 13 are definitely among my all-time favorite movies. Its really sad to see hear about him passing.”

More recent movies Paxton has been in include Term Life, Mean Dream, and The Circle, which was scheduled for release some time this year. Bill Paxton has been nominated for many awards throughout his career, and he won Best Supporting Actor for Alien, back in 1987, and Outstanding Performance by cast in a motion picture for Apollo 13 in 1996.

Sophomore Jon A. said; “It’s been awhile since I last saw Twister, but hearing this makes me want to watch it again this weekend.”

Paxton has had a great career as an actor, and even a musician. In television, music videos, and movies. Bill Paxton will always be remembered by many as a very talented actor and even musician.
