Name: Mrs. Hart

Occupation: Latin teacher at DHS

“Latin is important to me because the Romans, the speakers of Latin, had a tremendous impact on our own culture, government, and language. Our founding fathers were well versed in the Classics, all things Greco- Roman, and developed our Constitution based on Athenian democracy, the Spartan system of government, and the Roman Republic. The Romans were a superpower for hundreds of years and dealt with similar issues that our society has dealt with, such as immigration. The English language contains words derived from Latin. In fact, nearly 60% of English words are from Latin. And this is just a start. The impact of the Romans and Greeks is enormous!”
