This year the creator of Spongebob Squarepants, Stephen Hillenburg tragically died on November 26, 2018. He died from complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. This is a neurological disease that kills off the nerve cells. He died at age 57 as he was born in 1957.
Spongebob was made in the late 1990s and creator Stephen Hillenburg used to teach marine biology to high school students. Many high school students have had their whole childhood centered around the comedy found in Spongebob Squarepants. Senior Alex K. says “It’s a big loss for our society as a whole to lose a legend in the cartoon filmmaking department.”
The show is not planned to be canceled immediately but there is a chance of it ending during the 2019-2020 year. David Hasselhoff made a cameo in one of the Spongebob movies and tweeted, “It was a shocking loss”.
