2018 was a great year for the big screen. People rushed to theaters over and over to witness some of the greatest movies of this year. Some of these great movies include Avengers: Infinity War, Mid90s, and A Star Is Born. These movies have all been nominated for awards this year.

Avengers: Infinity War reunites the beloved cast for another fight for mankind in the face of evil. Amongst the returning characters, there are some new faces to watch. For the second time in the history of Avengers movies, Spiderman has joined forces with the original team. This movie tells the epic battle between the evil alien lord, Thanos who is motivated by the search of Infinity stones. These stones yield him the power to wipe out half of the universe’s population. The Avengers are then tasked with the challenge of stopping Thanos.

Liam K., a senior at Duxbury High School, believed the movie lived up to the hype.

“It was the best Avengers movie so far,” said Liam K. “It continued the story in a fun and gripping way.”

This movie was well received by audiences and fans and the new continuation of the series is to be released in 2019.

A Star Is Born retold a similar story to the 1970S film version starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. The movie’s main character, Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper), is a ragged, hard-living musician suffering from a tortured life. The film also focuses on the life of an aspiring singer, Ally (Lady Gaga), that is too shy to showcase her talent. This movie tells an inspiring and heartwarming love story focused on two musicians.

Mid90s struck audiences as a very fresh and unique movie. Also, this was the directorial debut of actor Jonah Hill. In the past, Hill has expressed an interest in directing and many critics agree that he is off to a fantastic start with Mid90s. The movie tells the story of a young teen that skateboards with his friends. This movie isn’t only focused on skating but instead depicts the childhood of a teen in the 90s, specifically in Southern California.

Henry R., a senior at DHS and a movie fanatic, raved about the film.

“It was like none other, I’ve never seen a movie that was filmed in its style and the story that it told was new,” said Henry R.

Overall, 2018 was a great year for a trip to the movie theater. There were so many more movies that were equally amazing but these were some of the most unique and well received of the past year.
