On February 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, the DHS Drama Club and Music Department put on this year’s musical. Beauty and the Beast was performed in the Performing Arts Center.
Junior Shannon M., who played the lead role of Belle found the musical to be a difficult but rewarding process.
“To say the least, it was a challenge,” said Shannon. “It was a lot of work, but it was so worth it in the end. Not only was the final product fabulous, but there is a lot that I learned about myself and my own abilities.”
The student director, junior Julia C., also liked how the show came out.
“We were able to sell out opening night which was amazing, and then we came pretty close the following nights as well,” said Julia. “I was very proud of the cast, crew, and pit for all their hard work.”
The only other DHS musical to sell out, coincidentally, was a previous performance of Beauty and the Beast.
Audience reaction was also positive.
Junior Cam P. said, “The set, the music, everything was just beautiful.”
Overall, the cast and crew came up with an amazing performance that many people enjoyed.
Shannon said, “The set was extraordinary. Darin, Julia Wonkka, and their stage crew all worked so hard to make this musical set one of the most beautiful yet,” said Shannon.
Many people helped out with the musical this year, from the pit, the directors, cast, and everyone backstage. “For those of you that came to the show or helped out, thank you,” said Julia.
