Chick-fil-A’s Grand Opening

Duxbury High School is clucking with excitement as Chick-fil-A, a famous fast food chain known for their savory chicken, recently opened in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
Chick-fil-A, which opened in Plymouth on May 9, is a well-known chain restaurant that is loved by many people. However, due to the owner’s political views, there has been an ongoing debate about whether or not the food is worth supporting his views.
Dan Cathy, the owner of Chick-fil-A, bases Chick-fil-A on his biblical values. For this reason, the restaurant chain is closed on Sundays. He also has told many journalists that he opposes same-sex marriages. According to CNN, in 2017, he donated $1.8 million to three groups with a history of anti-LGBTQ discrimination. Some of these groups include the Salvation Army and the Baptist Missionary Association.
Some students at DHS are outraged by Mr. Cathy’s views.
“I have stopped supporting Chick-fil-a amid these scandals,” said senior Connor M. “The LGBTQ community does not need any more people going against them.”
However, one man’s political views are not a dealbreaker for everyone.
“I get why people would not want to go there but the food is just so good,” said sophomore Olivia N. “At the end of the day, everyone has a right to their own opinions and just because the owner is openly opposed to same-sex marriage and is the owner of a big company doesn’t mean that other companies that people love aren’t the same way behind closed doors.”
DHS teacher Mrs. Brown concurs.
“I feel like everyone should be able to do their own thing,” said Mrs. Brown, “and if they are a good worker, it should not matter.”
Chick-fil-A remains a divisive issue on Duxbury’s campus with no resolution in sight.
